Week 1, Apr.
“There is more than one way to skin the cat.” 要達到同樣的目的，有很多方法

照字面的意思是：要剥一隻貓的皮，不是只有一種方法。換句話說，想要達成相同的目標，是有很多辦法的。

Don’t be so stubborn about this problem, because there is more than one way to skin the cat.
對這問題不必太固執，因為有許多方法可以解決。

解析：“skin”除了大家熟知的名詞意思為“皮膚”之外，也可當動詞，做為“剥…的皮”解釋。例如，”skin the fox”為剥去狐皮; “skin the onion”則為剥去洋蔥皮。

Week 2, Apr.

“When the cat is away, the mice will play.” 上司不在，部下就輕鬆自在
這是一句話很流行的俗語。意思是，貓兒不在，老鼠玩的輕鬆自在。也就是說，上司不在，部下就輕鬆自在。Cat是指任何有權威的人，mice是指任何權威者底下的人。這句話除了拿來形容上司和部下的關係外，也常被拿來形容老師和學生，家長和孩子的關係。

Don’t leave the children at home for too long, because when the cat is away, the mice will play.
別讓小孩獨自在家太久。家長不在，小孩就會無憂無慮，大玩特玩。

解析：在句型中，cat是用單數，mice是用複數。因為大致來說，也許只養一隻貓，但是老鼠可不只一隻; 通常老闆也只有一位，員工倒不只一位。

Week 3, Apr.
“Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.” 凡事不可期望過高
照字面的意思是：在蛋未孵化前，不要先數小雞的數目。也就是說，凡是不要期望過早或過高。

I told him not to count his chickens before they hatch because that woman may not marry him.
我告訴他不要期望太高，因為那個女生未必要嫁給他。

Week 4, Apr.
“Get butterflies in the stomach.” 十分緊張

這是一句隱喻的成語，指一個人內心感到驚慌或焦慮時，胃裡似乎會有許多蝴蝶在飛舞。Butterfly在此用複數形。

Whenever he is asked to speak to the group, he gets butterflies in the stomach.
只要請他向大家說話，他就會非常緊張。
